The SUS2040SB is a small-roller double-pitch stainless steel sprocket designed for No.2040S SS (2040 SS) roller chain running on a 25.4 mm pitch. Double-pitch chain drives use a chain with twice the link pitch of a standard chain, resulting in fewer, lighter sprocket teeth for the same drive ratio — an arrangement that reduces weight, lowers rotating mass, and cuts noise on light-load conveyor applications where speed is moderate and mass matters.
Manufactured in 304-grade stainless steel at our Hangzhou facility, the SUS2040SB covers effective tooth counts from 9½ to 12½ — the “half-tooth” notation reflecting that double-pitch sprockets engage every other roller. This design is a direct-fit replacement for Tsubaki 2040S, Renold double-pitch 40-series, and equivalent Rexnord 2040 stainless components, supplied factory-direct without European or Japanese distributor markups.
Double-Pitch Technology Explained
In a standard roller chain, every link has a roller that contacts a sprocket tooth. In a double-pitch chain, the pitch (distance between pin centres) is doubled, meaning rollers appear every second link rather than every link. The sprocket is designed accordingly — the tooth count describes the number of teeth that engage rollers, but the physical sprocket has additional “dummy” spaces between engaging teeth.
The practical result: at any given conveying speed, the chain runs slower relative to the sprocket, reducing wear and noise. The sprocket itself is smaller and lighter than an equivalent standard-pitch sprocket of the same chain speed. These properties make double-pitch drives the first choice for overhead conveying systems, light-duty sorting lines, and any application where minimising weight and noise matters more than maximising power density.
